Yes! We are having a destination wedding in Italy! We understand that a little extra planning has to go into your travels, but we hope you will join us for what is sure to be a magical celebration!
DO WE NEED A PASSPORT TO TRAVEL TO ITALY?
You sure do! If you don't have a passport, or your passport is set to expire 6 months after our wedding date, you will need to apply for one ASAP!
ARE THERE ANY VISA REQUIREMENTS TO GET TO ITALY?
While there are no visa requirements at this time, the EU has planned for the rollout of their new ETIAS/EES travel authorization systems to occur in late 2025. We will continue to monitor and provide information to everyone here.
WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY FLIGHTS?
It's recommended to book your flights as early as possible, ideally 6-9 months in advance. This allows you to secure the best rates and ensures availability, especially since September is a popular travel time in Italy.
ARE THERE RECOMMENDED AIRPORTS TO FLY INTO?
The most convenient airport to fly into is Perugia San Francesco d'Assisi – Umbria International Airport (PEG), which is about a 20-minute drive from Castello di Petrata in Assisi. Alternatively, you can fly into Rome’s Fiumicino Airport (FCO) or Florence's Peretola Airport (FLR) and take a train or rent a car to reach Assisi.
WHAT ARE THE BEST TRAVEL OPTIONS TO REACH THE WEDDING VENUE FROM THE AIRPORT?
From Perugia Airport (PEG), the best option is to take a taxi or arrange a private transfer directly to Castello di Petrata. If flying into Rome or Florence, you can take a train to Assisi, then a taxi or car rental to the venue. We may also provide group transportation from certain locations depending on guest arrival times.
WHAT IS THE DRESS CODE FOR THE WEDDING?
The dress code for the wedding is formal. Given the elegance of Castello di Petrata and the setting, we encourage guests to dress in formal/cocktail attire. For men, a suit and tie are appropriate, while women may opt for a cocktail dress or a formal gown. Moody, autumnal colors encouraged!
WILL CHILDREN BE INVITED TO THE WEDDING?
The most important thing to us is celebrating with you on our special day. While we are hoping for an adults-only event, we understand that traveling without your children can be challenging. If you need to bring your little ones, please let us know, and we’ll do our best to accommodate your needs.
WHAT IS THE WEATHER TYPICALLY LIKE IN SEPTEMBER IN ITALY?
September in Assisi typically enjoys mild and pleasant weather. Daytime temperatures usually range from 70°F to 80°F (21°C to 27°C), with cooler evenings around 55°F to 65°F (13°C to 18°C). It's a good idea to bring a light jacket or wrap for the evening.
ARE THERE ANY CULTURAL CUSTOMS OR TRADITIONS WE SHOULD BE AWARE OF?
Italian weddings are often lively and celebratory, with a focus on family, food, and fun. It’s common to have a long dinner with multiple courses, and dancing is usually a big part of the celebration. Also, don't be surprised if the celebration goes late into the night—Italians love to enjoy their weddings to the fullest!
WILL THE CEREMONY AND RECEPTION BE INDOORS OR OUTDOORS?
The ceremony will take place outdoors, weather permitting, with stunning views of the Umbrian countryside. The reception will follow, also primarily outdoors, with some parts potentially moving indoors later in the evening.
IS THERE A BACKUP PLAN IN CASE OF RAIN?
Yes, in the event of rain, the ceremony and reception will be moved indoors to the beautiful indoor spaces at Castello di Petrata. The venue is well-prepared for any weather situation.
DO I NEED ANY VACCINATIONS TO TRAVEL TO ITALY?
No specific vaccinations are required for travel to Italy from the United States. If you have specific health concerns, it's best to consult your doctor before traveling.
WHAT COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS OR REGULATIONS SHOULD WE BE AWARE OF?
COVID-19 regulations can change, so it's important to check for the latest requirements before your trip. Currently, Italy has no regulations preventing travel to and from the country. Please check official government websites closer to the wedding date for the most up-to-date information.
WHAT LANGUAGE IS SPOKEN IN ITALY, AND WILL THERE BE ANY LANGUAGE BARRIERS?
Italian is the official language spoken in Italy. In tourist areas, many people speak English, so language barriers are generally minimal. However, learning a few basic Italian phrases can be helpful and appreciated by locals.
WHAT CURRENCY IS USED IN ITALY, AND WILL I NEED TO EXCHANGE MONEY BEFORE I ARRIVE?
